hey everyone, so in my first post i was saying how im looking in to getting a red bar ambilobe.. and ive been doing some reading and things. Im curious if theres anyone who also lives in the mountain west that owns a panther cham, reason being is because we can get pretty cold weather and i would like to hear and or see any tips or set ups that people in this area have... even if you dont live out here any advice in helpful... tips, pics, videos, sites or anything else

thanks :)

I live in Montana and it can hit -40 f, does that count? Thank God it doesn't stay that cold but - 10 to -20 is normal in the winter. I have kept chameleons the 3 1/2 years I have lived in Montana. Moved here from So.Calif. who knows why. Any way after you get everything set up and running it is not much different than a lot of other places. My challenges include, having a backup generator so my chams don't get cold if my power goes out. I keep insulated packing boxes set up and ready should I ever need to leave home with any chams in the winter. That could only happen in an emergency!

I am very careful about heat and humidity. Most of my chams are quads so I keep the humidity high which can be hard on your home. I had to replace windows in several rooms when they molded.:( Now they live downstairs in a unfinished walk in closet that is water proofed like a swimming pool, well except the floor, which is cement. The temp doesn't vary over 5 degrees through out the year. Winter here is cold summer is hot. Today we will hit 102 f. Because of how my house is insulated the extra unfinished bedroom is perfect for then. With just 2 of us we don't ever plan to finish the 6th bedroom so the chams are set. All their feeders live right outside their door and so their supplies. If you have questions just let me know. But a room with wood windows just can't stand up to the humidity needed for a quad, so I would carefully consider the kind of cham you buy.

@laurie---- wow montana ? thats a cold place lol... im in utah so yes it counts.
first off thank you for the reply, but i was so curious because alot of people that i've seen on here live in warmer climates or ones with at least more humidity if not both. Utah is a cold and dry state. The room that i can put my cham (if i get one) is in our basement its finished carpet and furniture etc but im not sure if the fact that its colder in the basement year around will be a problem.. obviously their requirements and such but is there a certain way to keep them warmer?... im positive that the basking light wont keep the entire cage warm... i know screen cages are preferred but in this situation is there an alternative? Im new to the chameleon thing so i want everything to be perfect....

@brock---- thanks i appreciate the article link, actually found out some good things in their.
