More UVB bulbs

would 2 UVB bulbs be too much for couple months old male veiled cham?

What bulbs are you using? Ideally, one linear bulb should be enough. Sounds like you are using compact bulbs in a fixture that can house more than one; if so switch to a linear fluorescent tube.

i just started and setup the chameleon kit... it came with a CFL so what happens if i continue to use the bulb it came with? i bought a repti-glo to replace the repitsun 5.0 13w bulb but if these bulb are no good to use why do they sell them ? of course there will always be a better bulb to use i’ve see a lot of people use CFL

Simple, they sell them because people will buy them. If you continue to use the CFL you will not be providing your Cham with enough UVB putting him at an elevated risk of developing MBD. The CFLs produce far less UVB and they do not disperse it evenly. This means that if your Cham isn’t sitting in the perfect spot he won’t get the UBV. Linears on the other hand produce more and spread it out evenly across the top third of the viv.

Simple answer to your question, ciggerettes are horrible for you : but they are sold in masses because people buy the hell out of them. Not everything sold at PetDumb and Petslo are good for thier pets ...they are simply opportunities for the big box store to make money. A store that could literally give a rats a$$ if your Cham dies tomorrow.

What linear fixtures have users had good luck with? I'm currently shopping for a smaller fixture, which I will replace as the cage grows. For each smaller fixture I find, the reviews are terrible. I do understand that I need to change the bulb every six months, as all uvb bulbs lose efficacy over time. A two foot long or larger fixture just seems like overkill for now.
Would it be ok to mount a longer fixture on the side of the cage, or does it need to be overhead?

It needs to be overhead, like the sun. Reptisun 5.0 models get the job done and is the most cost effective. Go for arcadia if you wanna bring out the big guns

I was reading about the arcadia bulbs in another thread. I'd like to do 18" for now, but didn't see a fixture that would work with them. Anyone have suggestions for a compatible 18" fixture?

i recently just got this and ditch the crappy bulb it came with and replaced it with a repti sun 5.0 x2
