I have never had a Meller's but I'd say with their size the whole thing needs to be taller and I'd attach another tree to it so he has someplace to go rather than just stuck on the one tree. Your creating an environment he wants to stay in so give him paths to navigate and places to go...
It's still early in the day. Others will answer....

im sorry...i just re read your post...the biggest cage you can manage is the answer. I didn't see a cage so i was thinking maybe you were going to free range him...so i suggested another tree. I'd still go taller. Meller's get so big and the branches need to be able to support his size and weight.

imho i feel they need to have a tall tree but i know of alot of keepers who go for a longer rather then taller cage due to the fact that these ar clumbsy chams but i have mine in a 6 foot tall cage and another in a 9 foot tall cage and both seem to be enjoying them self.

When I had my guys caged my adult was in a 7.5 ft high x 4.5 wide x 4.5 deep cage I built from PVC and hardware cloth.

Now I have 3 in a free range about 9 ft tall x 5 ft deep x 10 ft wide and adding more.

The more room you can give them the better.

i compleatly agrre with jessica. the more room the better just for a comparison idk if you know much about jacksons but i used to study them in the wild in hawaii and i noted one male to have roamed over an acer to find more female. i had to wake up early every morning to find him befor he woke up. it took k=him just over a month and he batteled 27 other males to mate with 39 females and be chaced off by 11 larger male.
so my point is if a jackson roams that much you need to make sure a meller can have ample amount of space to roam and feel safe.

I keep mine on two ficus trees that are about 8-10 feet tall. He also has an area with a pothos where he gets misted. Drainage would be a pain in the butt, so he learned to go to the one area when the misters turn on as it's the only area with drainage.

Yes, you need way more room. The more room you can give, climbing area, exploration, etc., the better. Remember that they are one of the few species that are social with humans and each other. If you put up vines and other ways of climbing and exploring all through the house, they will do it.

:confused:Melleri are no more clumsy than any other species. They are however, larger, stronger (those feet can snap twigs), and heavier than the other species most of us will ever keep. The types of plants that work for a panther or veiled may not stand up to the weight and climbing activity of an adult melleri. I tried caging my first melleri (a wire cage 6'x8'x8') and we both hated it. A lot of work, expensive to build, took up as much or more space than free ranging, hard to reach all areas to clean, just a mess. So, free ranging after that and I'll never go back.

My melleri free range was a clump of potted plants including one 8' live Ficus alli tree, three 6' fake craft store Ficus trees all connected together by natural barked branches and light gauge wire. In between the trees were large overgrown Schefflera plants. Basking and UV tube lights hung from the ceiling overhead. A RainMaker Jr. misting system's tubing wove through the tree branches. An ultrasonic room humidifier set up on a stack of plastic crates to one side. The whole clump sat on a big piece of plywood on castors covered with pond liner. There are links to pics on The Melleri Discovery website and in a past issue of the Chameleonnews ezine. Don't have the pics handy at work.

i only put that they are more clumsy cause i have read on a few sites including meller discovery but i may have read it wrong. and my jouvi meller is one of the most nimble chams ive seen very elegant in the trees.:)
