At first I thought he was just on a hunger strike for superworms. So I used a superworm, and he seemed a bit excited, and came up to the front of the cage, but then WOULD NOT shoot at it, only look at it.
He recently shed and has been roaming around the cage like crazy, looking for a female. He comes out and sits on the door when I leave the cage open, tries to get to the top of the cage, and then goes back in, and repeats this over the course of the day.
He recently stopped this crazy up-down-up-down-side-to side-side-to side behavior, and started to mellow out.
I thought maybe with his recent shed, he'd be hungry as heck, but I was wrong. He refuses even his favorite food.
He even gapes and hisses at superworms and just stares as crickets. The only thing I've gotten him to eat in the past 5 days is one dubia.
Maybe he is eating his freeranged (let loose in cage) crickets while I'm gone, but there is no WAY 2 crickets let loose a day (I put 5-6 in a cup, let 2 loose, then put a couple dubis or a worm in there with the cup too) is enough to sustain an adult veiled. (We've had him for around a year now, so there is no way the age we predicted months ago was correct)
I think at this point I should get a fecal float, maybe raise the basking temps a bit, anyone else got some tips?
I recently got paid 100$ so I plan on using that for a cheap vet visit if it is necessary.. I know it's not much money but I was an intern over the summer, and was promised a pay. Then I was later denied my pay by the person who promised to pay me, saying it was an internship, etc, settled on a very small amount (since in all, it WAS an internship.. I only worked 4 hrs for 2 days a week over the summer).
Anyway, how long can a veiled go without eating and still be considered "stubborn" instead of "sick"?
I am just worried about my baby (even though he hates me).
