So I have a stupid question.... With eggs depending on species it seems to be a pretty long incubation time... How does this work with live bearers? And how many do they normally have?

So, my experience is only with xanths, but here’s what I’ve found: gestation = 6-7 months, and they can have up to 25 babies. My first clutch was 17. Some keepers report die offs at the 3-4 month age. I may have been lucky, but individually raised with nightime drops into the low-mid 50s, and I lost none.

And no question is stupid!

Female veileds can pop out way more eggs. Baby xanths come out in an egg sac no bigger than a veiled egg.
