modifying the Habba Mister

Has anyone tried replacing the nozzle on this guy?

Even though the thing doesn't deliver much in terms of pressure BUT!! couldn't there be a way to replace the hose and nozzle to get a better spray out of it?
 
I'm going to be doing it. Shouldn't take much more than some tubing and some hose clamps.

That's because your gonna love it! :D. I have the same size enclosures for both my carpet and rudis and the mister does not output too much water. It is a very fine spray and you can set the amount of time that best suits your cage size and chameleon. My mister runs about 5 times a day for 15 minutes and causes no problems whatsoever, all you have to do is make sure you have proper drainage and proper plant husbandry.
 
oh that's cool, I thought it ran a minimum of a minute or something. Hmm, maybe you are correct cush, and maybe I shouldn't be running around telling everyone how insane you are ;)

No you can actually set it to run for just one second (as long as you purchase the seconds timer). It works really well. If you have any questions just PM Marty, he does a super good job. I think everyone already knows, no need to waste your time telling them I'm crazy :p.
 
Zombie i thought the same thing for my enclosures they bith are the same size as yours and i had the habba misters before. I cant say enough how much i love the Mist king. The timer marty sells works very nice you can dial the settings down to 1 sec intervals. It works great and will give you what your looking for.
 
I really don't think modifying the Habbamist will help that thing. I think the real crappiness lyes in the pump. The Pump is literally the heart of any Misting System... and a weak beat means a weak system. I know that to get the kind of mist we are looking for with our chams you either need a pump pressure sprayer... or at least a 125 psi high pressure pump. The pump in the habba"spit" is just way to weak, therefore you end up with something that sounds like it is grinding gears, while it shakes up your chams cage spitting clumps of water at it. For one cage I just say hand mist.
 
I would hand mist but I commute to work so I can't stop by my place half way through the day, I would only be able to mist him in the morning and at night, so having an automated system is the route I need to go.
 
I would say...If you plan on more cages in the future go for a commecial system like mistking. If you are only going to have the one cage for a while I think the most cost efficient way is a DIY Pressure Mister... Like the one Summoner12 has a link for in his sig. I have used those before in your situation and it worked fine for me. Sometimes you can find the parts to put one of those together for fairly cheap.

I don't want to sound like a jerk i'm just trying to learn as much as I can, but why go this route when I could buy a proffessionally made system (meaning not by me) for a little bit more money? The mistking just seems to me (and i may be wrong, this is what i've heard on the streets) that it's small enough to support a single enclosure but powerul enough to support mulitple, if I chose to later on, and on the same system.

Plus I worry about something catastrophic happening to something I put together, Then coming home 8hrs later to a water logged office and a swimming chameleon, that still bites.
 
I ran the mistking with one cage for several weeks and didn't even plan on adding other cages for awhile. If you can afford getting one, then go for it.
 
I'm sure the Mistking is sweet and someday I will get one, but after messing with the Habba Mist for a while you will figure out some tricks with it. I have two of them and sure it's not an awesome mist, but after an hour of experimentation I got a decent spray out of it. One works better than the other. Beats the hell out of me why, but you can adjust the intensity by changing the length of the hose and using a different hose. I took the black hose from my little dripper and it worked a lot better. What I like about the habba mister even though it's not even compareable to the Mistking is the ease of use. It stores the water in it, you can hang it on the side of my rack and you turn it on and set the time and set the amount of time it sprays by a flick of a switch. I like the look of it also. Small and compact and I don't have to run a whole bunch of lines and have buckets of water chilling anywhere. It is a very weak pump though. I tried putting a vaccum T on it to see it I could run two mist heads and it wasn't doing a damn thing. I want to buy another one cheap so that I can take it apart and see if I can upgrade the pump in it. If Mistking could invent a compact unit like this that was more powerful they would sell a crap load of them! A lot of people just want something simple and super easy to use and setup even if it lacks the ability of a professional system.
