mistking help now... i hate it

so i purchased a mist king hoping to free myself from drippers and daily misting but much to my dismay this product is just not working for me. I have my water source on the floor and the pump about 4 feet above it next to my cages, so from the pump to the nozzles is another 2 feet. So it is about six feet from the reservoir to the nozzles. The EXTREMELY VAGUE directions state that "Typically this pump will prime itself, but if the height of the nozzles is much higher then the water supply, you may have to prime
it initially."

I prime it and it works....but only for about a day before the pump kicks on and nothing. What am i doing wrong? The reservoir is full, everything seems connected fine, not that I would know because I am just going off the "directions" which are in fact just pictures. What am i doing wrong here?

have you tried moving the res high, maybe 4" from res to nozzle instead of 6" and see if that helps?

Hey I had this problem to, to prime your pump you need to take the tube out of the misting nozzle and turn the pump on let it run until there is water coming out(of the tube not the nozzle), let the water run for a good min. Then you turn it off and plug it back it and turn the pump back on. It takes about 20 sec sometimes and then vwala it starts to work(during this process the tubes will be shaking a lot due to the air being in the nozzle don't worry its normal). I don't think it has anything to do with how long your res is from the nozzle. Try that out if it doesn't work I would just shoot a e-mail over to Marty and he will get back to you asap.

Weird. I have my bucket on the floor and about 12ft of hose going to the pump which is also on the floor under my rack system and then going up another 4ft to the 1st cage and it successfully runs all 4 cages instantly with no delays. It's freakin awesome.

This pump has just not been primed thats their problem.

sooo the problem has been solved thanks to the INSTANT i mean really fast response from Mist King Marty:

"That’s because the pump does not act as a valve and the water drains back into the reservoir after priming. Place the reservoir on the floor (higher is OK too) and the pump on the floor. This will allow the reservoir to gravity feed the pump. Let me know how you make out. Any other trouble, let me know."

I was grumpy this morning, vented a little in the original post. The customer service when you buy a mist king is GREAT as i have read many times on this forum. Thanks for the help guys and gals!

yeah i am not happy about my mistking lol... i wish i could get one of those misting systems that they have in the supermarket that mist their veggie products! lol... anybody know where i could get a better misting system? i would save up more money if its something that i dont have to check on all the time....

I would guess your problems are more then likely in your setup, and not with the product itself.

In the instructions it states that the reservoir should be slightly higher than the pump so that the pump is gravity fed.

I think that would solve your problems. Maybe the instructions aren't so bad after all.

mistking is awesome. Can't live without it! It gives me more sleep time, don't have to get up and out of bed in morning to mist all my cages. mist king / timers rules!!!

I was about to suggest this, and don't have one and never read or seen the instructions. Common sense is a wonderful thing.

I do wonder though, if the res is allowed to run dry, doesn't it need to be reprimed?

When first installed or allowed to run dry you MAY have to prime but having the reservoir higher than the pump allows the pump to almost prime itself.
You will still get the lines chattering until all the air is out, and you might have to disconnect the line at the spray nozzle.

As far as the 'why should I prime a self priming pump' question. Here's the scoop.

If the pump head is dry and full of air (ie. after sitting on the shelf for a while) it may not be able to prime itself. After the inital prime, it will work like a charm. If you run the reservoir dry and then add water, the pump on its own should be able to reprime itself - however. The nozzles have checkvalves and that may sometimes prevent the pump from priming itself. Think of it, like putting a thumb on a hose. It's much harder for the pump to re-prime itself, if you're stopping the outlet with a thumb (checkvalved nozzle in this case). Often times it still does manage to prime, but if it doesn't, you'll need to unplug the nozzle and remove the 'thumb'.... Best is to put the pump on the floor.

So yes, the pump is self priming, but in some cases not when it's plugged into the nozzle. It's a bit confusing I know.
