Misting System Question

I just set up an automatic misting system (DIY with diaphragm pump), but I know standing water is not a good thing in the cage. So, do you guys use some type of bubble stone or something to keep the water in the resevoir moving? It seems like water sitting there could produce some bad stuff too.

Do you re-reuse the water at the bottom of the cage? If so, dont... That is no bueno! Use 'good' water in your system, dont have it drip from cage back into the pump... If you fill a 5gal (or whatever) bucket with water it will be fine in the amount of time that you will pump it all out.

Where is your resevour(SP?)? Can't you just put a lid on it. What kind of pump did you use and where did you find it. I ask because I'm building one right now too, and only pump I've found is at agrisupply for 80 bucks, every thing else is 12 volt. The rest of the supplys were cheap though.

No, I drain the water away. I was curious if 5 gallons of standing water is ok. I mist 3 times a day for 10 minutes and the pump uses about a gallon a day. This would equal water sitting for 2 - 3 days before I top it off. Would that be too long?

I bought a shurflo pump on ebay. It was $35 shipped and was supposed to be new, but I question that because there was a little water in the pump. That with a timer, fittings and misting heads like the red ones from mist king totaled about $65.00. My resevoir is a 5 gallon bucket, so it is open. That may be my issue.

I dont see a problem with that... If you use the whole bucket in a week's time then clean and fill it me thinks that you have nothing to worry about.

I read somewhere that the new pumps sometimes contain a little water in them because they are quality tested at the factory.
What model did you get?
Does anyone know what the specs are on the Pro-Mist pumps (i.e. PSI and gpm)?

Heyy i also built my own dripper system i used a 55 tank and put my tanks on top of it, i pump the water up and then it drips down, and gets recycled is that a bad idea.... should i just use 5 gallons an wait till i pump it out

VERY VERY VERY bad idea... The water that runs through your cage gets all kinds of everything in the water... Poo, dead bugs, dirt from plants, dust, ECT... Very bad idea, do like ya said, use FRESH 5g of water at a time.

The pump is the Shurflo "Gold Series". It is designed for RO systems and pumps up to 110 psi. I also think it is desiigned for 35 gallons/day through an RO system.
