Minimum enclosure size

I know that 2x2x4 feet is the standard size most go with but would the 18x18x36 inch enclosure work for adult panther and veiled males? Would they be totally uncomfortable and would they just totally be too big for it?

I ask because I have miscalculated the space I have to work with at this time. It's a while before I have to think about moving up to adult sized cages (though I already have an 18x18x36 that I built) but it helps to plan ahead. If 2x2x4 is what I need to get then I'll figure out a way to make it work!

2x2x4 is recommended. 18x18x36 is do-able. If they happen to be very large panthers/veileds an 18x18x36 might be too small.

I think you can house adult females in 18x18x36 but its really recommended that you get 2x2x4 for adult males because they are usually bigger than females

Guess I have lots of rearranging to do! Tearing apart my room is something I've been needing to do anyways. If only the pet shop had been right and my veiled was a female, I'd be golden LOL!

They have spurs right out of the egg. Again, 18x18x36 is do-able and many people do house adult males in cages this size.

I just bought this plastic shelving that is perfect for my drainage project because the shelves are preforated. I was thinking of just taking out the bottoms from my cages and lining the shelf they sit on with screen and just let the water drip down into some tubs below. I only built the shelf to 3 feet high so I actually got shelves out of the process! The demensions are 72hx36wx24d which means I could put two 3 foot cages on there prefectly or I can use the other shelves and put one 4 foot on each. Either way is doable, but the first is convenient.

Here is a pic of my setups now with my 3 foot home made and a reptibreeze 20 inch high "baby" cage.

And yes I need more stuff at the top of my big cage, but at least now its like over 6 feet at the top!

I dont put alot of foliage at the top of my cages. It will block out the uvb. Just put some dowels or vines for perching and basking. And you can wrap those with some fake vines for added drinking oppurtunities. You do need some bigger plants in the large cage though. A nice schefflerra would fill it in and help keep the humidity constant. Good start though.

Yep plan for the weekend is to get a nice big plant that will take up 1/2 of the cage and then do some stuff with dowels and vines. The hibiscus is dropping some leaves so I think it's time to put it outside before it dies.
