Mia eating sand!

I caught Mia eating the sand in her laying bin, first i thought she was going in to dig which i thought was rather strange seeing as she's showing no signs of having eggs. Any way she stuck her tongue out and caught a little bit of the sand, she did that 3 times. Only stopped when i went and opened her viv door, she walked away from the sand. How can i stop her? Can't cover the sand up or remove it obviously. I don't want it to cause impact.

I thought this behavior was something to do with vitamins or minerals in their diet..? As in, they are missing something from their diet that they feel they can get from eatihg sand...??

I have seen young panthers try to eat dry leaves, dirt, and bark off of climbing sticks.... Im not sure what could be missing or if that is really the reason... hope someone else can shed some light on this

I can't see that being the reason to why she has started eating the sand because i have vitamins and calcium with and without d3 for her. :s

ive caught my 8mo eating dry leaves from a boston fern today. i will take the plant out unless it doesnt pose a problem.. does it?

She may be seeing tiny flies in there - like little white jumpy things. My two sometimes shoot down at the stoens on their pots and mucnh on something that I don't even see!

Hmmm i never thought about that, i'll keep an eye out. She's out of trouble at the mo, to busy sitting on my shoulder munching on her slice of apple. :p She's getting a right little brat these days. Lol

Aww, bless her! All mine spot those little insects that I can't even see and munch on them - even Lily used to do it. It's just a thought. I seem to remember Lily doing it to her sand too as well as her plants:confused:.
