metal halyde bulb

italian chameleon

New Member
Hi!
My veiled lives in a 190x90x90 (h,w,l, in cm) screen enclosure
Currently I'm using a 60W heat lamp and a 5.0 tube neon

During winter my house gets a bit cold and I'm afraid the spot won't be enough, furthermore I know that the neon tube must be changed every 6 months and i I was thinking of getting a Lucky Reptile Bright Sun FLOOD Jungle 70W bulb to have both heat and UVB

Now, are there any advantages or disadvantages in using that kind of bulb with chameleons?
does that bulb need a particular lamp socket or can I keep the one I'm now using for the heat lamp?
Is it better if use the lamp with a reptile specific reflector ?

Thanks a lot

Those Luck Reptile Halides are not available in the US yet ...
But if I remember correctly, they do have quite a bit of UV "kick"...
I would definitely use a Solarmeter to check the UV output for safety if you use one.
Thanks

Yes but they are available here in the UK
What do you mean by UV "kick", too much UV? or too few?
sorry but english is not my first language ;)
thanks for the quick reply anyway :)

I meant that from what I had heard, they were quite powerful... so you would want to make sure they were at the proper distance so the UV would not be too strong. :)

Volevo dire che da quanto ho sentito, erano abbastanza potenti ... così si vuole fare in modo che fossero alla giusta distanza in modo che il UV non sarebbe troppo forte. :)
sinceramente, :D
