Melleri Babies are Here!!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! It is about to enter the fun phase - the babies. There is nothing better in the hobby than raising a clutch of babies. But i would freak at a clutch the size of yours.:D:D:D:D I moved to montanes for more than one reason, I like small clutched so i can spend time with each little one. You can do that but you will never get to eat or sleep, and forget Daytona. Better start hiring babysitter's now. congrats:)
 
Not a happy camper

So, I had to spend the day playing "tour guide" for my sister and her family who are in town for the weekend (great timing). The one had just pipped and I could barely see a nose sticking out so I thought I would just let him finish his business during the day and I would come home to a tiny green body. The egg still looked the same when I got home so I cut it open. Inside was a fully developed baby melleri but not living. :mad: So, this morning, I decided to cut open a couple of the "questionable" ones that I didn't think would make it. Sure enough, they were fully developed as well but not living. Then I took one of the ones that had been sweating the longest and the same thing. I still have 7-8 that are still sweating.

All of my eggs that I've hatched out I have just left to do their thing and they go through the motions just fine. I am perplexed (not to mention very angry) as to what is going on here. Any ideas? It's not a matter of them not developing and the egg dying because that's certainly not the case here. This is NOT cool. :mad:

awww what a shame and thats a stunning baby as well :(:( sorry for your loss xxx hopefully there will be a couple that make it :o

What a tragedy! I'm so sorry they didn't make it out. Hoping for the best from the rest.

That is very sad and frustrating! I've had Panther clutches with a few eggs that do the very same thing. The Neonates died even if I pipped the egg for them after watching it sweat and shrink for what seemed like a longer than normal time period. I personally think this happens when the Neonate is not able to make the transition from getting oxygen from the egg's support system (through the umbilical cord) to getting it directly from the air (through the lungs). There has to be a small window of time that they make this switch. As to why they don't make this switch correctly, I don't know....

The same thing happens with human babies. We just have such excellent medical facilities and experience in the human birth process that we can prevent what would happen naturally if we did not intervene.

Don't get to discouraged. You have a lot of eggs. You might want to start pipping a few after they have sweated and shrunk for just a short time to see what the Neonates are doing and to see how early the death seems to be occurring, if it is. I hope you can relax a little and enjoy the 4th holiday in some way. You have a lot of people praying for your eggs and Neonates!

It looks like he has a large yolk sac still, did you try misting him with warm water sometime that wakes them up. It's hard to tell if they are alive or dead at that stage.

tks for mentioning this steve, i had this same thing happen to some of my nosy be's they looked dead an i did the warm mist thing and its like it hit a switch in them and they came too... i had 5 that were like this if i wouldnt have tried the mist would had given them up for dead...
 
I am so sorry;( I know im getting way ahead of myself and thinking WAY in the future but...im so sorry. I am wishing you all my luck with the others
