Meller Breeding???

These creatures are very hard to sex even when they are older....

I think I have a male but I honestly don't know, should I have a vet determine the sex for me, is that possible / will they know for sure?

*What i'm getting at is that I would love to breed my meller, but if no one knows what sex their pet is, how should i go about finding someone that has a female to breed with it. Should I just introduce different mellers and see what happens?

ps. I live in Manhattan, NYC if anyone is interested?

Get to know your melleri's daily routine and try to watch when it poops. Males often show their hemipenes for a moment. Sometimes you can get a cham to poop if you move them to a very warm bright sunny window. The strange place, a view, the light and heat can get things moving.

Mellers are kind of a difficult choice if you are only wanting to keep a single pair of chameleons.

If you are able to accurately sex the one you have- the next problem will be to locate one of the opposite sex that has been accurately sexed.

I've found the easiest way to sex them is to visually isolate them for several weeks and then introduce them to each other- the same way as most chameleons like panthers and veileds. When isolated they become territorial just like other chameleons. Males will then nod and flap in response to another chameleon, females will rock in response to nodding males- these behaviors are the same as other chameleons. Of course if you only have females, you may not get much or any response to the introductions.
