mealworm beetles

I think I remember reading that it was ok to feed chameleons mealworm beetles. Is that true. Also, what about the pupa. I know its not good to feed mealworms all the time but I always have pupa and beetles show up before I can feed all of the worms. I am just trying to come up with a variety of feeders that don't include roaches. I just don't think I could have them in my apartment. lol Also, if I remember correctly, BB flies come from calci-worms. I would like to offer flies to Rebel. I think it would be neat to watch him hunt them.

Thanks in advance:)

i have only ever heard of keepers feeding their chams the mealworm themselves, not the beetles but i cant be positive about this. i think this would be a great question to message sandrachameleon about as she is the go to for bugs! :)

on her feeders blog, https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/74-feeders.html underneath each feeder she has several links with more info on that feeder. there are some i just looked at for meal worms that might be able to answer your question!

as for the BB flies, here is a link for a thread a member posted about them, raising them and feeding for his cham! https://www.chameleonforums.com/blue-bottle-flies-22254/
there is also more interesting and informative links on them on sandras feeders blog too!

hope this helps some :)

It is a big help. Thank you so much. I'm not sure if I should still be feeding rebel every day ( I'm not sure of his age) but he looks at me like "are you gonna feed me or what" ? I just placed an order for silkworms, hornworms, and phoenix worms from Mulberry Farms because I was very happy with my last order from them. I can pick up good crickets here in town. I can also get wax worms, meal worms and calci-worms. I will be sure to check out the links and see about messaging sandrachameleon and checking out her blog. Thanks again. The information is very much appreciated.
:D

I thought calci worms and phoenix works were one in the same? i may be wrong though lol, and don't trust my word, but I coulda sworn I saw a thread that said the beetles are actually healthier than the meal worms themselves which I've read are pretty fatty, hopefully a more knowledgeable person will correct me :)

Apparently, the mealworm beetles are meant to taste rather bitter. However, my Jackson cham will eat them when they have just emerged from the pupa and still have white wings. He also eats the pupae.
