Has anyone used or know anything about MDF?

I want to use ponoko.com to get a custom, pattern vented floor made for Trogdor's enclosure. I just want to make sure something like that isn't toxic and can't hand being wet.

here is the description from ponoko

MDF

What is it
A particle board consisting of fine Radiata pine fibres pressed into a panel with the addition of resin and wax.

Design notes
MDF has a smooth sanded finish that is a pale brown color.

Typical uses
MDF is typically used joinery and furniture applications.

Adhesives, joints & fastenings
Construction adhesives will bond boards well. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for application processes. Screw joints should be pre-drilled to avoid splitting.

MDF= Medium Density Fiberboard

Water and MDF don't play well together.

The MDF will act like a sponge, and soak up the water, warp and swell. MDF is commonly used in the furniture industry with great results. It gets covered with a thin venier and thats how 70% of todays furniture is produced. Since it is made of pulp and glue it is very pourous, it will soak up water, and what ever you try to apply to it, basically making it unpaintable/sealable.
