MBD

Have you taken him to a vet to confirm the MBD?

If he reallly does have it, then he needs liquid calcium for a while along with the correct UVB, balanced proper supplements and healthy well fed gut loaded insects along with proper temperatures to get rid of the MBD.

Once the calcium and other nutrients are brought back into balance, you’ll be able to cut out the liquid calcium and return to dusting the insects with a phos free calcium powder at all feedings but 2 a month, and on those 2 days, he should be given a vitamin powder that contains a source of D3 and a preformed source of vitamin A. All dusting should be light.

it’s also important that he has the right UVB light…a long linear tube light…most often recommended are the Reptisun 5.0 or the Arcadia 6%.

Hope this pushes things in the right direction!

BTW, I’m not a vet …I just speak from experience and what I’ve learned in my 30+ years of keeping reptiles and other reptiles.

I am using a t5 ho 5.0 bulb. 12 hours on 12 off. His ambient temp stays between 70-80 during the day basking temp is around 85. Humidity is about 30%. At night the temp gets no lower than 60. Humidity has been around 50-60 at night. I mist for 2 min in the evening after his lights go off and 2 min before lights come on in the morning. I also use a dripper during the day.

I dust all his insects with calcium without d3 and twice a month I use reptivite with d3. I gutload with veggies and bug burger. Currently using dubias as a staple and have bsfl ordered. He also gets hornworms.

He has not been to the vet, and I know this is an issue. I am trying to find one in my area that isn’t several hours away. We have a vet in town that sees reptiles, but he is not an exotic vet. Does the liquid calcium have to be prescribed?

He was previously kept with a compact bulb and fed a diet of mealworms. He had all fake plants and his cage is too small. I have a larger one in the works and am switching his plants with live ones as they become available in my area, so he currently has a mix of both.

I can post any photos or other information you may need. I have some posted on other threads, including the supplements he gets.

Just thought you would like to know that Spaghetti has an appointment with a specialist on the 10th ☺️

Can we see some pics please? When u see the doc on the 10th ask for syringes with and wirh oit the needle. A good way to get liquid calcium down him is to put it in a syringe without the needle and when he opens his mouth to hiss at it, shoot it to the back of his mouth. The openings to his lungs are in thw front just under his tongue and if you get it in there, he could drown or get respitory infection. The other way is to inject it into a hornworm. Inject slowly near the middle of the worm then feed it to your cham. Then there is always the option of injecting it directly into your cham. The vet can show you that. Unfortunately, your cham will not understand that its for his best so if you have different dosing techniques till you find what works best for the two of you, it eases his fear.

Thanks for the advice! Here’s some pics of my grumpy little man.

Handsome guy you got there. looks like his casque is crooked so he has got some sort of deficentcy going on. Let us know what the vet says. The best of luck to you both!

Well he weighs 85 grams and does not like the vet! 😅 but he does have MBD and is getting some supplements for that. Vet says his little bones look ok, just the bent casque and shaky legs so it seems to just be the start of it and it hasn’t progressed far.

He also listened to his lungs and said they sound great, but the little noodle kept holding his breath when he was trying to listen 😂

What supplements, etc did the vet prescribe? What treatment?

What about supplements? What specific ones are you using now, while this is going on? I particularly looking for phos, calcium, D3 and they type of vitamin A.

He gets this calcium at every feeding and the reptivite twice a month.
