Mbd??

Hello,

I have an 7.5 month old male veiled chameleon (DOB 08/21/15/). When I purchased him from the reptile store I was informed to use two different lights, a heat/basking light and then a red light at night time, dust his crickets with ZooMed ReptiCalcium (w/D3) and the crickets are fed Fluker's Orange Cube (complete cricket diet) along with carrots and those water gels. He eats normally, although he doesn't seem as food motivated as I've seen other peoples chameleons. Turns his head away when I show him a cricket from my hand etc, hunts them on his own. After reading a link from one of these forums I read it is recommended to buy a hood lamp which I did today! I am concerned about MBD and that he hasn't gotten enough UVB because of the old lights I was told to use. I have photos of him and was wondering if he looks like he may have early symptoms of it? I also included a photo of his new habitat. Thank you so so much in advance!

Terrible information! I would ignore everything this store told you to do. They are clueless. Do not use ANY light/heat at night unless your room gets colder than about 50F. Chams need a temp drop of at least 10 degrees at night, and no visible light. He doesn't look bad now (maybe they hadn't had him in their care very long), so you have time to get him on the correct diet, lighting, and dust schedule.

, dust his crickets with ZooMed ReptiCalcium (w/D3) and the crickets are fed Fluker's Orange Cube (complete cricket diet) along with carrots and those water gels.

This supplement schedule is wrong. The cricket diet isn't great either. I'd really suggest reading the chameleon care articles listed under the Resources tab so you can start correcting the bad information you were given. Do not trust that store for anything!

Thank you so much! I have been reading a lot online because I felt his current setup wasn't enough and I was worried. I found a link through the forum recently and have been reading up: http://raisingkittytheveiledchamele...-max=2008-01-01T00:00:00-08:00&max-results=11

He seems to be much happier with his new setup! I was so worried after reading about MBD, wondering if his legs were a little abnormal since he hasn't had a UVB light so just wanted to be sure! I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me. I definitely wont be going back to that shop!

He looks beautiful and no MBD! I am glad you realized the mistakes in time before it effected his health.
