Maybe and Odd question, but can you use baby food to gut load?

I have read the list of good gut loading foods, and as I was baking sweet potatoes the other day just for this purpose, I thought about baby food. Can you use organic baby food just for this purpose....just put a spoonful in the cricket keeper?

i personally would advise against the baby food. reason being you dont know what kind of chemicals are in it. i wouldnt want a cham getting sick from it. the crickets may also drown in it. i never fed store bought baby food to my daughter either. its just untrustworthy

I wouldn't. It's formulated for mammals, and so it probably has a lot more protein than is healthy, among other imbalances.

I would agree that the combination type food may not be the best thing for gutload but the straight up fruits or vegetables should be no different than feeding the actual food. While I don't think it's practical for crickets as one poster said they might drown in it I did use it for Phoenix worms without issues other than it was messy. Now I just feed the Phoenix worms leftovers or compost type food. Right now I have about 350 enjoying acorn squash. The other problem I see with baby food is that it might spoil and kill the crickets.
