Mangroves

Has any of you ever heard of any negative effects from keeping mangroves in your enclosures? i have a friend who has one in his rather large enclosure along with a hibiscus. He said that he's never noticed the cham eating on the mangrove as long as the hibiscus and ficus is in there too. I was just wondering whether any of you have heard of doing this.

curious...... is that illegal? they are a protected plant.

no clue. he was originally from fla. and would find props washed up on the beach in areas that were obviously too populated for a mangrove to grow. i could be wrong, but i think it's only illegal if the tree is dug out, as opposed to raising one from a prop. I wasnt going to use one for my cage, but i just thought it was interesting and wanted to know if anyone had heard of any problems with them.
