Male Veiled Chewing Female Tail?

I have a Male and Female Veiled pair that have been living together for about a month, but grew up together.

Recently I noticed the male chewing on the females tail, half of the tail is chewed up and will likely fall off.

I put him back in and watched to see what happened, and he immediately tried chewing again. He keeps wanting to get back into the cage with her.

Does anyone have information about this? I haven't read much about it being a regular chameleon behaviour!

Veileds need a separate enclosure and your female needs a vet visit to see if she has an infection on her tail and get the proper meds for her tail.

he most likely does not see the other chameleon as a threat, but her tail as food. regardless, this is not healthy for either of them for obvious reasons. like jann said, veileds and a hudge amount of other chameleons, need serperate enclosure regardless if they were brought up together or not. please seperate them and bring her to a vet. keep us posted!

Like said above the male and female should NEVER EVER EVER NEVER be in the same enclosure together
and they should be seperated ASAP.
And the female needs to be taken to a vet RIGHT NOW and hopefully an infection won't spread and she might need the tail amputated but thats the doctors call.

Just incase can you fill this out?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Obvious responses, they do NOT live together, they were together for a short period of time so I could observe,

Thanks.

You shouldn't have put them together unless you were trying to breed them. Even then you have to be observant for such signs of aggression. Chameleons don't care if they grew up with another cham, they will be territorial towards each other as it is in their nature.

Good to hear that they are not living together. Now you just need to get your female to the vet before it's to late. Chameleons go down fast.

A month is not a short period of time... if you wanted to observe or do research on veiled chameleons living together you should have prolly just googled it...
Now your females tail is messed up,
take her to a vet.
