male panther not interested in any of my females????

I have a male panther chameleon, and 2 females, the male is a year and 2 months old, the females are a year and a half old, why in the world is he not interested in them?do panthers need to be cycled?

For starters are your females receptive? You would know by the change in their resting coloration. They should be a nice pink/salmon color if they are receptive. Secondly, males can be unwilling to breed for numerous reasons. It could be dietary? (Like a vit a def) Or it could be enviromental, he may need to be spurred on by the presence of a rival male to get his blood going so to speak. Or depending on the locale he may have a shorter breeding season each yr than some of the other locales do. You have to know the animals body language/coloration and the specifics of the locale your working with.

they are Ambilobe panthers, the females are a beautiful pink/ salmon color, I think they are ready. When i put the male in there cage niether one of them run,hiss, or puff up. he will head bob alittle and thats it?

If you dont have any other males you could try showing him his reflection in the bathroom mirror for a few seconds and see if that gets him fired up. Sometimes letting them breed outside the cage works also. If you have a large tree you could put them on together that could work. Or your male has a problem like I said. Could be a dietary issue, could be a sperm plug that he cant pass. Theres just too many variables when it comes to breeding for me to be able to give youa definitve answer as to why he wont do the deed.

Just keep trying diff things and if nothing changes you may want to have him checked out by your vet to make sure its not a medical issue.

You said you are putting the male in the female's cage...this gives the female the "upper hand"...try putting the female in the male's cage or putting them both in neutral territory to change the balance.

If none of the above helps you may have to accept that he errr..... "bats for the other team".

Seriously though some animals can be that way inclined. Hopefully yours isnt!

The head bob shows he is interested. Do you leave them alone to do the deed?

I had a male panther that wasnt interested in breeding. The occassional head bob, but nothing more. He didnt much react to other males or his reflection either. Sometimes they are just "duds" in the breeding department.
