If it is and Xanthopoulos Jackson chameleon then it would a male. Now if it was another sub-species of jackson chameleon then it could be different. If you could post a picture of the base of the tail that would be the most helpful. :)

Thank you!! :) I thought he was a male but wasn't sure. Also the place I bought him said that he is about 8-9 months old is there a way to tell for sure?

are you using a red light?

Yes I am it is the halogen light that came with the hood that we bought. Do I need to change it to a blue/white light?? I asked them at the store and they told me that it wouldn't matter if I kept it red or changed it out.

Yes it is the red night light. I was told it would be just the same at the blue/white day lights. Was I told wrong?

sadly, yes.
1- no lights at night. they need total darkness to sleep.
2- fro basking during the day a regular hosue bulg will work just fine.

we dont know how color bulbs affect them. so clear ones only.

:D

Thanks I use the red one for his basking site during the day (I will change it out for the white one.) with his UVB light and I had a moonlight blue night light that we turned on for heat. But Solid Snake told me that he should be fine without one at night so we are going to check his temp tonight and make sure he doesn't get to cold (if we have to use the one at night to keep him warm we only plan to in the winter because our house can get really cold and I don't want him to get to cold..)

if it gets super cold, just get a ceramic heat emitter.

it screws into a fixture like a bulb, but has no light, just warms the air.

Oh yes Solid Snake told me about those as well! We will be doing that if it gets to cold but will have to use the bulb until we can get the Ceramic heat emitter. :)
