Hi all.....i was wondering what is the lowest safe temp that you can keep a female veiled at during the day?i have read that if you lower the temp and reduce the feeding it may encourage less chance of laying,is this true or even safe
I've no experience with veileds myself, but I've kept panthers with a daytime basking hottest spot as low as 77F/25C for long periods of time without issue. I used just a 20watt bulb (plus the UVB tube). The temp was around 68F/20C at the lower end of the cage.
I have had veiled females live to be over 6 years old without ever laying a single egg. Whether or not yours will lay eggs is partly dependent on their diet.
I'm sure that the diet restriction I do and the slightly lower temperatures for female veileds plays a big part in the egg production and the longevity...but the gutloading and supplementing play a part too....
Thanks everyone for your help.....it's gone 11pm here(UK time) so i will read up on all the links tomorrow...Tiff..i read that link just after i got Trixxi...i shall go back and have another look tomorrow, cheers all....and goodnight xx
