Loose Food?

Hello



Having just bought my first chameleon i am worried about something!

I cant seem to catch all of the crickets that she hasnt eaten!

Is it a huge problem if a couple stay in there over night?

I have had my veiled chameleon for 3 days now!

I am having trouble getting the insects back out that she hasnt eaten though!

Is is a huge problem if a couple remain in there over night?
I dont want to distress her too mush by chasing them around for ages!

If you leave them in there they could bite your cham and cause harm. I use a cup and just go along the screen collecting any left over crickets.

It could be a problem if they can get to her while she's sleeping, they will bite the cham. You could try cup feeding, that's also a good way to tell exactly how much she is eating, sometimes it's easy to miss a dead cricket if it's loose in the cage.

You can put a slice of fruit on the bottom of the cage if you want. This will give you pice of mind, as the left over crickets will swarm to the fruit at night and not bother the cham.

I would not leave feeders in the cage over night. Crickets have been known to munch on chams.

Crickets can bite your cham and hurt it.

I agree it is best not to leave crickets in the cage while the chameleon sleeps. If you are unable to catch them all, or uncertain if you've caught any leftovers, please do put in something for the crickets to munch on other than the chameleon (fruit, carrot, egg, etc)
