feeding a feeder- this little guy came out of the bush when I was feeding the baby Jax, I just could not resist giving HIM a snack - ( you can tell the sex of a mantis by its # of abdominal segments males have 8, females 6) all the mantis that are in the yard are my breeding colony - these will not be fed off - but he made a poor choice to perch on - 18 chammy eyes were watching him  lol

they all broke lose after a tree crushed the netted area for them - how does anyone else keep their breeding mantis? I am not sure if I want to catch them all again, or just let them alone ? what do you guys think ? there are about 80 running lose... all over .... I told my husband " THOSE must be wild ones- mine are in cages " LIE !!
they are about 5" long now -

LOL I find that hilarious when a wife tells that to her husband instead of vice versa, I just assumed that only worked one direction. Like every time I hear a cricket chirping in the house I tell her I don't think that was in one of mine.

LOL I told my husband the same thing. We have wood roaches that come up here some how and my husband will stop me and ask "Is that one of yours?" Nope mine are all in their bin...

Those doods are super cool.. I would love to breed them! Their eyes freak me out a tad though! If I start another breeding project I will probably be scolded by my no bug touching significant other! Hahaha! :p

I would say to let the babies have the dumb bug. But in this case that mantis is bigger that the babies.:eek:

thats just it- I think HE was stalking the babies -

How big do you let mantis get before you feed them to your chams?
I fed the hatchlings off right away to the babies, and a few that were 2" to the others, but I had collected 47 ooths - so I put about 30 in my "pen" - but then a tree fell on it and smashed it , and the camper, and the tractor - and now they are to big except for the panthers - but these are all for next yrs hatch
