Loki's carrier!

Okay so today was beautiful, not too hot and we were going to the inlaws to let our dog swim and I thought: "I wanna bring Loki!" My husband reminded me of an old cage I had from a rat I adopted from petco a while back that someone left there (so sad! I couldn't just leave her there:() So I cleaned up the cage, used some bendy branches from Micheals and foliage that I had lying around from other chameleon projects before and it came out great! We took him in the car and he did so great! No stress that I could see and he got to visit and sun himself while we were all out by the pool. It was so nice:D I was super excited how well he did so I wanted to post pics of his first outing!

cool! I was very happy with how it came out for a temporary sunning cage or travel carrier :) I've been wanting something like it for a while. Took me only 20 min to put together and he was pretty comfortable in it:) The bendable branches from a craft store worked perfectly and then I just wrapped a few vines and silk plants around and hung some in the corners so he could hide if he wanted to. Thanks btw:D I'm a proud mommy!

Awsome idea! Did ya think about standing it on end? Would it work? I'm not sure of the door configuration from that position. Or how it would balance with the base? Just a thought.

Oh yea. Stunning cham :)

I actually had it both ways, and the way I put the branches and vines in, it can be turned either way and I put a handle on two sides so that it can be hung up or carried either way. I'm still experimenting with that part of it, but I don't think it would be secure sitting up on it's side without some sort of weight in it, but I think that hanging it sideways would work fine if you were using it for a sunning cage :p

Thanks :)

How much were those bendy branches and do they have any texture?

The branches were only $6.99 for three(they are really long!) and they have like a waxy type texture that is easy for their little claws to grip. They sell them at Micheal's craft store and I found them by all the fake flowers. I have them in my free range around the door frame too. I call it my chameleon highway! lol

That definitely is exciting :) i cant wait till i can take my babies outside :) watching them grownup is so rewarding!

How old are your babies? and what kind of babies do you have? I remember when I first got my little guy he was 3 months old and was terrified and thought I was going to eat him!! After a lot of patience and moving slow with him he decided I was more fun to climb on and now is always begging to come out! lol I'm so happy I've made it this far with no bad luck yet *fingers crossed!* He's ten months now going on eleven! I have a ton of pics of him growing and how much he's changed since I had him, it's insane!! He's my first so I'm also extra amazed having never had a reptile in my entire life, let alone a chameleon!!:p

Glad to hear your adventure to the pool went well! Cham and all! Always great to spend some quality time outside with your cham... Especially when they don't freak out about it! Great job, your chameleon is beautiful!

I've only had my veiled for a few weeks now he's still pretty scared of me I try my best to let him be. Hopefully he warms up to me! Anyways your chameleon highway rocks. Does he stay on the range? Im scared if I set one up he'd end up missing.

Thanks!! I was super excited!!! I'm so happy he didn't freak out:p the car was no big deal, he's so relaxed about everything it was like:"yeah okay as long as I get to go outside, I don't care how I get there. Let's go mom!" lol He's such a sweetheart:D Thanks for the compliment, he's my first so I'm always questioning myself

Don't worry, Loki was super scared at first, but what I would do is put a silk plant in front of his cage with some branches going into his cage and close the door and leave for 20 min or so and he would be out on the silk plant when I came back. Then I would very slowly introduce him to me by slowly sliding my hand underneath his chin so he could climb up on me, and sometimes he would and sometimes he would "panic" and get away from me. Either way I would let him be for another 10-15 min until he calmed down. I would do this every weekend when he was little and when I could finally hold him(he would still get upset sometimes at this point) I would take him outside and put him on a plant since my hand was still so forgien to him. When Loki was still small though he would lose heat fast so I'd have to slowly get him back into his cage after a few handling tries. I think they all have their own personalities reading what others have put on here, and I know some people are not wanting to handle their cham at all to prevent stressing them out, but I feel that if you shelter them from EVERYTHING, they will get stressed out so much easier. That's how it seems with Loki anyways. Now he's always relaxed(I haven't seen him fire up for months!) and actually begs to come out and crawls out onto my arm no problem. It just takes a lot of time and patience. You definitely don't want to over handle because they are delicate and you don't want to comprimise their health, but I feel that there is a grey area with this and it's not so "don't handle at all" or "handle all the time", and it also depends on the cham IMO. Regarding the free range, He does stay on it, and I've left him there overnight before and he was fine, but you have to pay attention and check on them to make sure they don't get too bold and I always leave the doors to the room closed when he's out in it lol Mine is next to two windows and has plenty of climbing room so he doesn't get bored, and he absolutely loves to stare out the window! I don't have lights in my free range though so it's something I leave him in for a few hours at a time for extra exercise!:p
