so ive got my new chameleon and im buying all sorts of critters to feed his face with. dubias, crickets, silkworms...and locusts!

i read somewhere (at least i think i did) that if u put packing tape around the inside of your tub they cant climb past it. well i put 50 of the little buggers in amongst my cricket tub and low and behold they immediatly start scaling the walls...past the tape.

my cricket tub doesnt have a lid!

frantic shaking and banging of the sides dislodges them but i then had to round them all up and try and put them in a small tank i had spare for baby geckos. total. nightmare!!

so..

HOW do i keep locusts and is there anything i can do to stop them climbing. i really want my cham to have a great diet so idealy id like to give him locusts but they are a nightmare.

help!

I keep mine in a large ( really useful ) box 11" deep. I have lots of holes drilled on the top for air. And they can climb right to the top of that. With the lid on and a shake before opening not many escape.

luckily i had one spare and managed to get them into that and round up the escapees.

i could have sworn i read they couldnt climb past tape on the walls but turns out thats just crickets.

on the plus side my chameleon loves hunting them through his branches, they cling on so much better than crickets.

I keep them in the same type container as Kate showed, but with screen lid/sides.

I just throw a few sticks in with them, but I only ever have 15-20 at a time.
