LLLreptile screen cage water tray

i got one for each of my LLL screen cages. The screen cages actually have a solid plastic bottom that fits into the bottom of the frame- then the whole thing fits into the tray. The trays saved my hardwood floors when my Monsoon went haywire and dispensed all of its water in one day.

There is about a 1/4 space between the exterior cage bottom and the tray.

I really like mine and would recommend them.

I use it by drilling a hole and putting a pvc fitting into it, so the water drains into a bucket, through a hose. To drill the hole, I used a step bit, so I could keep the hole small enough that it would be a tight fit. You can then use pvc glue or silicone to make sure it doesn't leak. My cage is a DIY cage, so it doesn't fit perfectly, the front of the cage sits on top of the front edge of the tray, instead of on the supports inside the tray. There's a thread here on the water trays, that's where I found the idea of using the fitting and hose. Makes drainage easy. :) Oh, forgot to say, you have to drill some holes in the pvc bottom of your cage so it can drain into the pan.

So how do you go about emptying the tray?

I live in SF Area so there is not much humidity, and with my mister set to 2mins every 2.5 to 3 hrs I do not have water accumulation problems. When I had the near flood last week I am happy to report that both trays (I have my monsoon set to 2 cages and one terrarium) did not fill to flood-stage. In the several days since they have dried out.

My thought initially, should the trays remain fuller more often, was to drill a hole and attach tubing for drainage. I've had my current set up for some months now and have not had to worry about draining the trays.
