Live plants

I plan on getting a pothos plant and putting in my 2X2X4 reptibreeze.
I am wondering the best way to go about this.

I had plans before to actually have the plant hang from the top but i now think that the weight would be too much. I also don't think it will get enough light sitting in the bottom.

I have a lot of fake ivy in there but I want to put another live plant but just don't know how I should. There is also a tower like thing built with dowel rods. (i could always rebuild this fairly easily if needed)

a picture of his current setup can be found here:

I use wooden dowels that I got from Lowes and put them across the corners of the top of the enclosure, letting the aluminum frame support them. I then use small zip ties that I pass through the mesh to create a loop from which to hang my plants. Works great, not my idea I got it from someone else here on the forum :D

That sounds interesting! Could you post a pic? :D

I am also interested in seeing how exactly that works. I may give that a try. I just need to get plans together.

This is how I hang my pothos plants:

Very similar idea to that of Ninkylou, really. You want something long and strong (like a wooden dowel, a metal rod, etc.) that is long enough so that both ends rest on the frame of the cage. This will distribute the weight.

Next, I take heavy-weight fishing line, tie it to the rod, thread it through the screen, and tie it to the plant pot. A set-up like this can easily hold a large pothos plant, even when wet.

Some people use other materials (thin chain instead of fishing line, etc.) but the concept is the same. You just need to distribute the weight, and you can hang several plants!

I hang my pothos too- I have a 1x2 cut to fit the width of the top of my cage, as said, it rests on the aluminum frame. I use galvanized wire to make a loop around the 1x2 going through the mesh and hang the plant on that. I have a pic of a cage with a hanging plant in my album.

Like she said, but I do mine across the corners. :D
