I just bought a Croton from Home Depot for like $10. It's a pretty big and nice one. It needs alot of moisture, being that it is a tropical plant. This one I have seems to be very hearty and i'm thinking about washing it and repotting to use in a cham cage... Does anyone have any experience with these plants??

Croton is perfectly safe for use with chameleons.

On second thought, I do remember hearing that their leaves have a decent amount of toxicity. If the chameleon is a known plant eater I would not use it.

Sorry.

No i haven't seen that before. The plant will be used for an ambilobe panther... so you say theyre ok for panthers? From what i've read theyre insectavores whereas veileds will accept lettuce and fruits... is this true?

Thanks, I will probably add another plant in there as well, i mostly wanted to use a croton so i could get the humidity up well in the enclosure... I want to put alot more bendable vines and grape vines in the cage to kind of blend it nicely together...

Interesting.... Well I'll def. take your word for it, you seem to know ALOT. It'll make a nice plant for my porch anyways haha, thanks Brad.

I personally do not worry to much about toxic plants. Chameleons are not going to keep munching on plants that make their stomach sore or taste bad. It is kind of nice to have a plant in the cage that is not going to get mutilated. I have a croton and have had no problems.

Pothos could cause problems to but you don't see anyone taking those out of there cages.

I agree with Jordan. In the 90's I had many species of cbb chameleons and used pothos, and IVY as well, never with any ill effects.
