lily & bob ?

hey
my female veiled has settled in wonderfully now and colours up fab, my only wonder is im not sure if shes got eggs or not sometimes its looks like she does but im not sure and was wondering would it hurt if i put bob in with her and see what happend? i know about colour change in the female when the male is in and that he wont mate her if she isnt receptive etc..

so would it be ok to put bob in or not

Glad to hear that Lily is doing well. She might be receptive. Does she have little blue spots? I would just show them to each other. If she turns dark and becomes very unhappy then she's not receptive. How old is Bob now?

im just uploading some pictures ive took of her with her colours showing through and a couple of videos i just took

she is a bright shade of green with some brown markings and quiet abit of orange and alot of turquiosy blue spots/ patches over her, the pictures show this better

well just put him infront of her cage as she was moving and in clear view for him and her to see each other

no colour change apart from bob went abit dark cos he didnt want to come out LOL, but apart from that she didnt change colours just sat there looking they both saw each other bob went very still and just looked at her and she looked back then he tried to move and climb up her cage which i didnt let him cos its mesh front and id never get him off again lol, but now his gone back she still hasnt changed colour shes just continued to head down the cage and bob has gone back under the basking bulb and gone back to his normal pastel colours

If Bob is only 7 months old you might want to wait a while. Usually rule of thumb is a year old, but it depends on the health and size of the chameleons.

However it does look like I see blue spots on her which means she is receptive.

well bob is around 6inch stv and i dont know weight cos he wont stop still long enough to weight, but lily does seem quiet chubby and some times you can see round things pushing against her skin from the inside near her back legs in some positions??

I have seen pics of your male veiled and he looks more than ready to breed. I dont mind breeding MALES at 7+ months of age as they are most likely to breed at that age.

I have noticed with veileds is that the male doesnt seem to really care if they female is receptive or not, he will normaly charge her and head but her to try get her to stop hissing (if she is unreceptive) and sometimes he might try to bite if that happens seperate them.

But your female looks great and very receptive so I would go ahead and breed them. Your male might head but her sometimes though even if she isnt hissing, sometimes just when she moves a bit. But she shouldnt be harmed and make sure your there to see he is not getting too aggressive.

It all sounds rather a stressful and boisterous affair! I showed Tommy to Amy a few times and the last time Amy went really dark and gaped at him. Tommy will happily show off to Amy, his reflection or even a photo of another cham on the computer screen, lol! I think females make it quite obvious that they don't want to be messed with!

@Tiff: You said "the last time Amy went really dark and gaped at him ". If only the last time she did this then she is most probably gravid and going to lay eggs in a couple of weeks, maybe now you can let them breed to atleast try make the clutch fertile.

I have seen egg shaped lumps in her for a good few weeks now when she sits in a certain position. I think it would be too late to result in a fertile clutch now anyway. I also have to think ahead about when they might hatch as I am not allowed to take any time off from my job during December - it's our busiest time! I would want to be in a position to take a couple of weeks off when they hatch so I can make sure that they are all ok!

i think they are eggs cos at times there is more then one bump the most ive seen is about 5

just went to look at her and put my hand in, she stretched out pretty far probally fully stretched for her and she went very slim and you couldnt see any sort of egg shapes then but when she went back to normal you could see them again ?? when you touch her around there they just go when you press there :S

Having never had two before or even bred them, I really don't know! I find them rather confusing, especially as Amy always seems to look the same colours as my Lily used to. I know with Lily that when I saw the lumps she was about 10 days away from laying, but she laid so many she was almost full to bursting by the time I could see them! Amy has me puzzled, bless her - she is around 15 months now and she hasn't laid yet! I've been seeing her lumps for weeks now! No other changes, apart form her being more grumpy-wumpy Amy than usual, lol!

if so, what could those bumps be at the back of her could it be some sort of fat reserve? and would it be sensible to put a 6/7 month old male in? would he be fertile/ old enough to do the job?

Ok well when do you plan to introduce them? She is developing eggs now as she knows there is a potential mate around. Unless you dont want to have baby veileds in 6 months.

Sounds good, leave him in so he can do more than one copulation. I would introduce them for mating every day until she shows gravid colours and no longer wants to mate.
