Has anyone ever used the Exo Terra Dual Top Canopy. I was wondering if the Exo Terra Sun Glo Halogen Daylight Lamp is used for basking.

Has anyone ever used the Exo Terra Dual Top Canopy. I was wondering if the Exo Terra Sun Glo Halogen Daylight Lamp is used for basking.

Sounds like a basking bulb, but honestly you don't need a "fancy" basking bulb. Any ordinary household incandescent bulb will to the same job. And, if you can't find house incandescents where you live, a halogen porch light bulb will do.

I like leaving my basking and UVB bulbs separate because I can move them independently and angle them to fit my cage setup better. A hood sort of commits you to one position, and if the basking bulb is too warm you have to move the UV farther away too.

I already have the top but I was just wondering if I also need a basking light?

I guess I'm confused now. Describe this hood...does it have sockets for tube type fluorescent lights or screw in incandescents or both? If it has a socket for both a heat bulb and a UV bulb you have what you need (except for my other comment about prefering to keep them separate.
