Lighting recommendation

My Zoo med dual uvb and basking unit stopped working on one side (and its not the bulb). Does any one have a recommendation as to what works better and longer?

I would highly suggest going through Light Your Reptiles, they are a sponsor and there is a link to their website in the "view our sponsors" link. Todd with them helped me a great deal and was very prompt as well. He helped me get the right fixture knowing what my set up was, not just a light to go on top. I know I'm not the only one here who sings their praises, I can't imagine I'll buy from anyone else after dealing with them.

It's been 2 1/2 month since I started my Chameleon hobby and I already blew up 2 lights. It's because I got a night light for my chameleon (red light, looks like a ***** house in there. lol).

I think I need to keep extra bulbs-- or need to purchase a new socket for the bulb because if you keep on switching bulbs, in the process of unscrewing a bulb you can mess it up.

Just FYI: you need to replace your bulbs I think every 6 months because they loose their strength. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Arcadia bulbs only need a yearly replacement

What is the blue bulb and the white bulb?

Is it better to use Tube lights instead of bulbs? I saw it on light up your reptile website. Please advise.

Do you really need the red light district lamp on at night? it looks cool but yikes too much red.

Yep, I've had my fixture for about two weeks, and absolutely love it. The cage looks so much better than before with the cheap zoomed lighting. More money...but definitely worth it.

You shouldn't have any light at night, red, blue or anything. No matter how dim it may be, the chameleons can still sense the light even with their eyes closed (can't remember where I saw that on the forum here). I think it can really mess with them since they don't get an actual day/night cycle with night lights. I think the only thing you can use at night is a ceramic heat emitter since there is no light coming from it, but you want to be really careful as the chameleons don't recognize it without an actual emission of light so they may not realize they should go towards it to warm up, or may go towards it while moving away from the UV light trying to cool down. My breeder also said to watch the temperatures at night when doing this as once they are asleep they can basically cook since they won't move even if they are too hot. I think it is risky to use these, but if it is a must to raise your temps then you could. I have stopped using mine as it was brought to my attention that my ambient temps were too high at night anyway (thanks to the member who filled me in!)
