Lighting question

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time figuring out the lighting to buy for my new veiled chameleon, but I'm finding it all a bit confusing.

I am going to order a 24 x 24 x 48" cage from diycages.com today. I want to order a light as well. I was thinking the 24" dual flourescent light fixture, but what bulbs do I put in it? It fits 24" T8 bulbs. So I know I should put one Repti Glo 5.0 24" tube, but what do I put in the other one? Is there such a thing as a heat bulb tube? So I could just have the one unit? Or do I put two repti glo bulbs and use a dome light for heat?
I have one small zoo med dome light that I could put an incandescent bulb in. I tried using another dome lamp with a 60 watt incandescent and it got super hot and smelled like it was burning, it freaked me out a little.
Any advice is appreciated!

But that doesn't give out heat right? I would still need the incandescent for heat? Is the 6500k light something from a pet store or more from a hardware store?

Right, T8 flourescents do not put out much heat. You really need that incadescent with the dome for basking, as the heat needs to be directed to one spot.

Like piglett79 said, a 6500k tube is a great addition to help any live plants. It also helps brighten up the cage.

So the basking dome with incandescent light + the dual bulb fixture (one reptisun 5.0 + a 6500k plant light) would be perfect!

Great advice already, but I will offer another choice. Arcadia T5 HO 24" fixture with an Arcadia 6% UVB and a 6500k tube light. Check out Light Your Reptiles (a site sponsor) for more info. You do not have to change the UVB every 6 months, but rather every year. Very good product!

The Arcadia bulbs are amazing. I totally recommend them!

i also recommend the "light your reptiles set up".
under that hood it is about 80 degrees
my veiled spends a bunch of his time in that area. :D

I agree, we have the 24" double fixtures from light your reptiles with the arcadia T5 high output 6% and the arcadia plant pro in each. This set up is fantastic and provides much more UV and light. We then have the dome with a regular incandescent bulb in the corner. Also the arcadias are good for a year where as the other UV bulbs tend to need replacement after just 6 months.

Make it simple. rite now pet smart has a good dealer, get any kid of flukers fixture. theres a blue one with a dimmer to control bulb power, a deep dome or a regular 8 - 10 inch one anyone will be perfect! they have a good deal on bulbs they have a 100 wat basking spot lamp with a 5.0 uvb bulb (its a zoo med combo) just make sure ur spot is like 90-95 degrees. hope this helps
