I would like some input on what wattage and such would be best for a 2-3 month old panther chameleon in a 18x18x24 exo-terra glass terrarium? Whats the best basking temperature for him as well? I am going to buy the bulbs today and would like everyone's thoughts! Thanks!
It was recommended to me to keep my baby panther cham at about 82F-83F.
A regular 40 watts incandescent house bulb can produce this. Glass terrariums retain heat more than screen terrariums, so make sure you have a digital thermometer with a probe you can move around the enclosure to make sure you are maintaining proper temperatures throughout. You want to achieve a temperature gradient of 82-83F in his basking spot, down to the lower 70's in the bottom of his cage.
You'll also need a UVB bulb. The best would be to get a Reptisun/Reptiglo 5.0 flourescent tube.
I would bask your baby panther at about 85 in the terrarium. I would go higher if it was screen as it would not make the overall cage as hot as the glass. If you see him gape then lower the temp by either changing the bulb wattage(40 is good to start) and or lower the branch or raise the light.. the uvb bulb as stated above.
