Lighting HELP!

Hey I have been having a problem with the UVB lighting. Unstaffed out with the reptisun 5.o compact bulb and I think my Chams eyes might have been getting a little bit irritated. So I decided to get the tube bulb. I got a hood that fits a 18 inch bulb but they didn't have the reptisun 5.0 only the 10.0. So I get a 15 watt reptisun 10.0. For now. I am figuring I will have to return the bulb but just wanted to ask you guys if I can get away with the 10.0? I figured the tube bulb is better than the compact and can use the 10.0 for now. Please give me some advice on what to do I want my Cham to be comfortable and in the better conditions possible. Thanks everyone.

He kept closing his eyes frequently and then opening them back up. Kinda like when a person has irritated and dry eyes he also would go in to the mist when the misting system wud go off and sit there opening and closing his eyes. This wud allow water to get unto his eyes, I guess it made it feel better. But I decided it wasn't worth it I wud get a tube bulb. I picked up the 10.0 this morning but also was able to pick up a 5.0 this afternoon as well. So now I need to return one of them. So if anyone has any suggestions on which one to return please let me know. Thanks

Is the 5.0 a coil? If so most peeps here stay away for the exact reason you are changing to the 18inch. I am not sure about the 10.0. I am going to wait for a senior member on that one.

A 10.0 can also cause a problem as well as it's really intense for chams. Depends how far the bulb is, you can get a 5.0 coil thats a repti glo for short term. The new editions are better, the coil repti sun was causing irritation.

I am able to pick up the reptisun 5.0 yesterday so I am just going to return the 10.0. I started out with the compact reptisun but I just don't think he was liking it. I wud rather know my Cham feels comfortable then try and save a few bucks buy not buying a new light. Even though I had the 10.0 on him yesterday I feel as though he was more active and enjoyed it much more. I think his blinking has calmed down a bit.

With any new bulb I recommend raising it up off the cage. I have noticed that even a new reptisun tube 5.0 seems to bother some babies eyes.

Ok thanks. I had noticed that when I had the reptisun10.0 on he was sitting lower in the cage, now that I have the 5.0 on he is sitting in his normal spot. I also feel that he likes this tube bulb much more than the compact on I had. I am not sure if everything is totally true about the compact bulbs any more but it not worth taking any chance for about $20. That's one thing I have learned quickly about owning acham it never smart to go the cheap route. Being cheap and owning a Cham do not mix will at all. It only hurting ur Cham and most likely u will end up paying for something u should of bought to begin with.

Why do you have a blue bulb? most ppl just use a house bulb from like home depot.
NO! lights are 12 hours on, 12 hours off! chams need darkness to sleep!

I just had a question i have the 18" zoo med naturalistic hood with the
Zoo Med ReptiSun® 5.0 Compact Fluorescent Lamp - linear bulbs are better. Watch for any eye problems, this brand of CFLs has a history of them
and the
Zoo Med Daylight Blue Incandescent Reptile Bulb 60 Watts - That's fine but a regular incandescent house bulb is cheaper and works just as well for next time

are those good? and do i just keep them on 24/7

Definitely do NOT keep them on 24/7. There is night time in Madagascar and they need to sleep at least 10-12 hours. The lights should be on during the day for at least 12 hours but then total darkness at night.
