I am getting a chameleon twomarrow and was wondering what is a good time for the lights to go off/on?I have it set to 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

It probably varies.....

I'm willing to bet you will get a variety of responses....I have mine on 7:00 am until 11:00 pm. I give them 8 hours of sleep. I'm a late night person and am sometimes cleaning cages at 10:00 pm. If it's winter time and gloomy outside they might go to sleep earlier than that with the lights on. In the summer when it's light out super early they often wake up before the lights go on.

Having them go off at 10:00 pm is fine. I would turn them on by 8:00 am though. What are you getting? How old?

thanks I will set it up for 8:00 AM for sure. And I'm getting my first cham and will be a ambilobe panther and will be three months old!!!!!!!!!:D

My cham wakes up at 7:00 am, and goes to sleep by herself at about 7-7:30 pm, even if i didnt turn the lights off..she gets into her sleeping position:) kinda cute lol;)

thats good to know I was worried that I'd be messing up her sleeping schedule

Sorry to slightly derail, but would it be okay to just follow the light pattern outside? Or depending where you live would this deviate too much from the natural lighting it would experience?

give them 8 hours sleep...if they want to go to sleep before turning lights down, they will i think:) today Momo went sleep at about 19:45. now its 20:17 here in Hungary, and she sleeping well now :p

I haven't had time to test my light timer. So I was wondering if I would only need to set one of the timer for the whole week,or would I need to set it for each day of the week?

maybe the timer "machine" gives you bot options! a weekly setup and a daily setup too. probably better if u take the weekly, it will give an order, simulating the "natural" pattern or something...like a daily routine..wake up at a time all day to go to work etc... hope u know what i mean ;)

I do 12 hour intervals, just as nature would have it.
630 on, 630 off..same as sunrise/sunset here. i noticed if I kept it on later, Leo went down to his branch even earlier. I just went by his schedule.

The timers vary., Mine has the ability to set it up to 7 different times. I assume one for each day of the week if one prefers. I just use the AUTO and program 1 and leave it at that.

yeah that pretty much answered my question! So I miss placed my instructions and needed to know if I needed to set it on auto or random. What does random do?

Never heard of random. I suppose its meant more for like, outside lights maybe to throw people who might be casing the house off? You know, if someone suspects they come on same time (like in Home alone) then they are on a timer, so maybe it just throws it on whenever someone has it set.. Or it could also be an energy savings thing.. if you are not needing it as often on the weekends, it is set to be more efficient. I would just stick with auto and keep it same time every day. Like I said, Leo knows, at about 615-620, he heads down to his sleeping branch and the instant that light goes off, his eyes are closed.:)

Depending on your timer random option is for "house" lighting for vacations. Like a theft deterant. It offsets your on/off time to make it look less like a timer.

I tend to more or less follow what the Sun is doing.
So in Summer the lights are on for a longer period of time than in Winter.
Currently the lights come on around 7am and are off around 7pm
