LED lights

Hello all, first of all please forgive me if I started a new thread unnecessarily. I did a search for LED and nothing came up. I was wondering if any of you out there in the cham community have tried the LED lightstrips from our sponsor "Light your reptile". If you have what do you think of them as compared to regular lights. I know they aren't uvb emitting. I'm thinking of giving them a shot for the potential $$ savings and life span. Thanks for any replies.

I am offering custom built LED light strips and they are certainly a power saving over T8 bulbs. The upfront cost is of course more than standard tube lights, but the LED lifespan is 7-11 years and I only use the newest CREE high output LEDs with proper full spectrum. In short, up front cost is more, long term cost is less.

do you have any photos? Im looking for something to clean up the top of my cage. I have a large 24" hood, a smaller 12" hood, a big 10" round reflecter with a standard curly type bulb, and a 5" round reflecter with my ceramic heat emitter. Still there is not quite enough light ( 2 ficus, 1 coffee plant, 4 small fern type)

Here are a few pics taken with my phone...these are 2 16" units housing 12 LEDs each in my 3'x3' light hood for my 8' tall build. There is also a 4x6" 4-LED blue moonlight setup (turns out 4 is WAY TOO MUCH !)

I will upload "good" pics in the coming days as my website nears completion (www.integratedecoscapes.com)

Light output on these guys is quite strong (~750lumens @ 9W EACH)

EDIT: These units in particular do not have any kind of splash guard because a large guard comes in front of the entire light hood. The INDIVIDUAL units I sell come with a splash guard mounted on the front to protect the LEDs from misting/etc.

Todd(LYR) is an amazing person to talk to and do business with.
I have been using his LED's for months now, and I love it. I also use basking, 6500k, uv linear, and one of his "natural sunlight bulbs"
my plants are doing well, my chams better

Bigger stuff is in development & on the way.
LED spots that are super bright to point at plants but not over-light a whole enclosure...
You know... Like shafts of sunlight streaming through branches!! Oh yea.

PS. The 13 w Jungle Dawn screw ins have approx 960 - 1000 USEABLE lumen , since all the light points down.

2 of those (1900 lumen +/-) in an inexpensive 10 gal aquarium inc. strip light or in an exoterra hood do kick out quite a bit of light...
mix 'em with a T5 Arcada 6% Forest UV T5 flo. bulb and .....

THE ARCADIA Metal Halide UV emitting spots in 110 v are almost ready to be imported. NXT MONTH.

Metal halide eats Mercury vapor for breakfast.


FIRST TIME OFFERED IN US! And they have been independently tested by the UV goddess herself.

I would be fascinated if you could show me ANYONE in the world with a UV LED light fixture...

I have been working on developing one for a few weeks now and to the best of my knowledge such a product does not exist anywhere in the world.


EDIT: The only "UV" LEDs that are viable on the market output high wavelength UVC afaik.

Ask and you shall receive.

Phew..you are all over this like dust on a cricket!

The chips that are being produced are "tuned" to quite tight bands / wavelengths and not a curve.
Very "Spikey".
You can have a chip made$$ for like 295 - 305nm , or say 320 - 330 nm.... the result is not like the band that is in NATURAL sunlight.

But they say that they can be done with broadend bands & the co. in the US.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear in my post...I was referring to a "retail" UV LED fixture.

I am aware of the individual band LEDs and as I said I have been working on developing a retail unit by combining these LEDs to form the appropriate spectrum. I have a mostly-working design but am currently hindered by a lack of a UV-focusing lens (my knowledge is in theoretical physics and I have found it difficult converting that to applied engineering at times...) I have also found an affordable supplier if my initial runs are large enough, so I am looking for a financial backer as well atm.
