Leaving Chams for a couple days

OK - So my Veiled and Panther are both doing great, putting on weight. The Veiled is approx. 5 months old and the Panther, 4-1/2 months.

I'm going to the Daytona show. Leaving my place after I feed them Friday morning and I'll be returning sometime Sunday afternoon.

I have an automated misting system set to go off every 2 hours for 1-1/2 mins. but also use a dripper that shut off every night and back on when the lights come up in the morning.

The questions is, would it be better to use the dripper while away and let it drip all night or is it better to just shut it off an rely solely on the mist system for the chams water needs?

I think if the system you have been using so far hasn't had any issues, and your chameleons are nicely hydrated, there is no reason to change anything. Your chameleons will be fine without watering them at night.

Thank you for the reply but I think maybe the question was misunderstood.

I know I don't need to water at night and in fact should not, that's the rub. Since I won't be home for two nights to shut the dripper off. Should I just not drip at all for 3 days and rely on the mist system alone?

Or is letting a dripper drip all night (just for the 2 nights I'm gone) not a big deal?

I'm concerned about one or both developing a RI.

I would just use the mist system. That is all I use for my guy. Why would you be worried about them developing a URI? As long as the mister is set to go off in a timely manner after the cage has dried out they should be fine.

I am by no means an expert on RI but I think it would take longer than 36 or so hours to really cause a problem, the only times I've heard of RI happening, is when people have kept their reptiles in overly humid/wet conditions for weeks, not days...but as I said, I am no expert. Hopefully someone with more experience with RI will weigh in with their opinion!

It's not the mister I'm worried about. I was concerned that if I left a dripper dripping for three days 24 hrs a day while I was gone it might cause a RI because the cage would not dry out.
