Hey guys,

I noticed that my panther leans to one side while he basks and sometimes expands himself and makes himself bigger while he basks. is this normal? his basking spot is only 80 and goes no higher.

Chameleons lean and flaten their bodies to get more light and warm up. Are you sure he/she is able to get warm as required? I don't have all the information on your chameleon but is sounds like it is not as warm as it want to be. The question is does this happen for just a while after waking, which would be ok, or does it happen all day when basking?

well i was told to lower the temp before because it was around 85 - 90 and he usually does it in the morning. i dont know if he does in the afternoon because im not usually home. He also puffes himself out and "yawns" as i stated in a previous thread but here are some pics.

I don't see anything unusual. He looks ok to me, but how old is he? Awful pink to be a male. Also what is the jagged plastic or glass think? It looks like it has sharp edges which could hurt your cham.

My Rocko (panther) will extend his gular, puff up and give a big yawn. Then he stretches and shakes like when you get a chill, every morning. He also leans every now and then. It's normal! :D

well hes definatly male because hes got really dark colors in his terrarium sometimes right after hes done basking and when i take him out hes got lots of greens and some turqoise "Thats also him in my avatar". and thats actually my cricket cup/feeder. i should file it to smoothen it or put a layer of tape over it.

ya iv seen him open his mouth and right before its fully closed he shivvers sorta. that kinda freaked me out but its a relief to know its normal and not just my guy ::)

My guy just got done basking while doing the lean. I think they do it not only for better heat absorbtion but also to have a smaller profile so they are less likely to be seen. The chameleons' lean skill is awesome it never fails to crack me up when they are on a vine and you look at them and they siddle sideways to get away from you.

ya i spent 5 min looking for the little guy the other day and he was right infront of me! :D

Hey the same thing happens to me all the time - He will be right in front of the cage and I will be looking on the sides, looking in the plant I'll go to give up and he'll be right in front basking for UVB just watching me.

my quad will even occasionally bask, maybe once every few days, and he'll lean like that. I didn't think they ever like to bask, but sometimes the cage gets as cold as 65-66 so I need the light, and he makes use of it.
