Laying eggs??

I'm new to this,so let me say I'm glad I found this site its been very helpful in everything I needed to know.My son came to visit and brought his veiled chameleon(female & 8 months old). The petstore he bought it at,told him keep it in a tank, feed it twice a week. The poor thing looked skinny to me although I had no reference to compare it to.So I've been reading everything I can to make life for this little beauty better.I decided to go free range 3 months ago, and its working great. She perked up and was doing fine. Now she has dug a hole in the tree planter 4 days ago.She climbs in every day with her head sticking out and lays no eggs! She is getting skinny(I mean there doesn't seem to be any eggs in her) and hasn't been eating. I don't disturb her while she's there, but at night she's back up top perched. She drinks a lot.I was thinking about getting a sandbox for her,but am unsure this will help.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the helpful info up to now I really think you've saved her or at least made it better for her!

If she's trying to lay and nothings coming out it could be that she's havin troubles, large eggs maybe. But if she looks skinny then I'm really not sure! Maybe a vet visit is in order to see if she has eggs or not.

Has she been getting complete privacy to lay her eggs? She probably will not lay if she sees someone watching her. This is important because if she retains eggs and becomes eggbound it will require an immediate vet visit.

Have you increased the amount of food she's getting? I would say 1-3 feeders everyday.

Regarding laying you should really check out these links:

On food, nutrition and supplements sandrachameleon's blog is a fantastic starting point. She gives lots of great info and links.

Well done on trying to improve her life!

She has privacy.I work daytime, till around 5 and stay out of "her room" since I've noticed.I go in at nite to check water and food,in the morning I crack the door, and she's not at her favorite spot. She isn't her usual green color, actually shes real dark green brown mixed.Maybe I'll give her another day and and take her to the vet thursday or friday.Blackened, thanks for the links.:)Off to read them now.AngieL If she has no eggs would she still dig holes?
