Laying Bin

Plese help,

we've got our laying bin sorted but I still don't know some things. So we're going to put it in today but how do we know when Tilly is atually ready to lay eggs. Will she show signs?

Also do we leave it in there permanently, or what?

And if we do how do we keep the sand moist and how do we know if she's actually gone in a laid eggs!

Normally, before they lay they go off food. If she will not eat for 4 or 5 days keep a close eye on her. They wil roam around allot more than usual. They gain weight and their bellies look bigger. If you have the space keep the laying bin in all the time. Just check the moisture in it every few days you may need to add water to keep it mosit enough for her to did a tunnel without it collapsing on her. I use washed playsand and keep it moist so that when I squeeze it no water comes out but it will form a ball in my hand.

You will see her dig; she will need to have a very private place to dig and lay eggs. If she sees you watching she can abandon the hole and become eggbound and die. She will be much thinner after laying the eggs.

Hope this helps.

Hey Beeze,

Well nobody is in the room she is in for most of the day and there are hiding places in her tank. We're following the steps of feeding slightly less and keeping temps lower in the hope that she wont lay eggs. She's not showing any signs that she is ready to start laying. She would eat all day if she could and seems completly normal so would you advise keeping the bin in their anyway?

Thanks!

More help please!!

So we didn't think Tilly was ready to lay her eggs but since posting last she's been hanging around the bottom of her tank and sitting on her plant pot. She never ever does this.

We put the bin in straight away and covered the tank with a large towel so it's provate for her. Is it ok to do this?

Another think she isn't showing any other signs. I keep thinking I'm seeing a bulge in her belly but then I look again and I don't see it.

We're getting pretty worried :-( thinkin have we done everything right and what can we do to make her comfortable.
