Lacey has left us

Yesterday I lost my juvenile female quad. I came in to the cage yesterday morning and she was laying on the cage bottom, but was alive. Her eyes were sunk in and it did not look good. I rushed her to the shower, but no help. She died no matter what I tried.

I did a necropsy, it showed she her digestive tract was totally blocked. Her entire body went into septic shock. She also had nematodes. That is very unusual in a CB chameleon.

I love quads and am working to establish a cb population in the US, so this was a big blow to me.

I did the first step today. Super scrubbed all the cages. Now I will be doing fecals as each one delivers a "package", I will also take 2 or 3 of the poops, to the vet and make sure they see or don't see the same thing I do.

After that I do tons more research and fine out how a cb cham could come up with nematodes. That is usually found in wc chams.

Any other ideas are very welcome.

Thanks Kate, knowing what happened helps but it doesn't tell me how or why she was impacted. And I still have no idea about the nematodes. There is always so much to learn.

Thanks Tiff, losing her was hard, and Bill Strand making me learn to do a necropsy was awful. But I am glad with his guidance, I now know what she died from, just wish I knew why. But I will just keep learning and becoming a better keeper. Even then, they won't live forever. But you are correct, if love would save them, I would have a lot more chams.

I know how tough it is. I have been reading through Amy's old thread about her eyes, trying to help someone else and I relived those painful few weeks all over again. Although they are gone, we will never forget them.
