keeping pathos plant alive

what is the best way to keep bare root pathos plant alive . I have tried a few times and they keep dying . I am not sure if I am sort of killing it when I wash them with dish soap and water I dip the whole plant root and all for a few min.is this wrong and then I hang them high in my cage under the lights which have 2 6500 and 2 6% bulbs from todd (light your reptile) cage is the standard 2x2x4 screen cage this is my light http://www.ebay.com/itm/290885992143

Sometimes when I need to wash my plants like that I'll actually run water over them first, so the roots absorb water. Once they absorb what they can, then I run the soapy mixture over them because the roots won't be able to absorb the soapy water. Are you keeping the plant barefoot in a basket?

Try finding a basket like what is on that website (scroll about a quarter of the way down to the 'plastic net baskets') . Is the plant sitting too close to your 6500k bulbs? Is it getting misted enough?
