Keeping Green Banana Roaches in the Container

I am ordering some Giant Green Banana Roaches soon, and I am wondering how I should keep them in the container considering vaseline would just melt away in the high heat and humidity. .___. Plus I really don't find the idea of spreading vaseline all along the inside the top of my container that attractive >.< I don't really want anything that would cause them to stick to the container and therefore die... if it's possible. I was hopeful there would be a way to seal it or something?

Many people apply vegetable oil instead of the Vaseline. The oil has to be applied more often, however. Personally, I've always used and preferred Vaseline. It doesn't melt and my green bananas don't get stuck in it and die, either. I apply it neatly and carefully around the rim and make sure it doesn't get "all over." I only have to reapply it every 4-5 months.

Aside from that, you will LOVE green banana roaches. They are one of my favorite feeders!

I use a piece of screen cut about 2 inches bigger (on all sides) than the container. I put the screen down, than snap the top on. I also used tape to secure it on two sides to the container, so it doesn't come off unless I lift it. That way there are no sneaky fliers. :) I haven't had any try to escape, though. They usually run and hide in the substrate or under the bark pieces.

I use window/door insulating strips that have adhesive on the back and are about 1/4"thick. I run this around the lid where it would snap onto the bottom and has been successful in keeping them in. I like the screen idea too, I'll have to try that next time!

Forget the Vaseline and all that garbage!!!! Use the type of tub in the picture and line the top edge with the door weather strip shown and none can get out. I have several species of bugs that I keep like this and they can't escape!!!!!

Exactly how I keep all my climbing roaches. The tubs are at lowes. They are great.

Sorry if I was a little curt in my reply but I'm to picky and could not stand the thought of Vaseline or additional screen etc. I have large and small Banana roaches as well as hissers and other insects that can fly or crawl up anything and this method of containment has served me well. I hope this helps and I'm sorry I don't want to offend anyone as there is always more then one way to do things. I currently have 25 plus different types of insects that I breed as well as 23 breeder chameleons not including baby's or eggs and I need to keep EVERYTHING simple and easy so that I can properly care for everything.
Good luck with your new bugs and as always if I can help just send me a pm.
Steve

Thanks guys for the replies, I will probably try out the latching tote and weather strip idea when I get them since I already have that kind of latching tote. Thanks for the help 8D I will let you knowhow it goes.
