Keeping Crickets in an Iguanarium

I purchased a new panther Chameleon (first one, yea!). He came with a mesh chameleon cage but it's falling apart.

I have my mind set on the Iguanarium because it looks way heavier duty, has wheels, and has a removable tray at the bottom.

My question is how can I keep crickets from escaping? I was envisioning 8" of TAP plastics around the bottom edge.

Any suggestions on how to make it work?

I think they could jump over, or climb the plants in the cage and jump out. If I were to use an iguanarium I would probably cup feed. Maybe the experts have other ideas though.

Welcome by the way, there are great people here. :)

1) crickets can eat through any plastic screen.

2) all screen will eventually rust, so dont invest in SS.

I think best bet is just to "tub" train him and just have the crickets roaming in a 5 gallon tote at the bottom of the tank.

Yes. I've used a deeper plastic storage box either hung in the cage tree with light gauge wire, or wedged in the foliage. You can use a deeper box and position a branch so he can climb in over the rim of the box to shoot them from above. Put a little gutload in the box so the crix have less reason to try escaping. The only feeders you won't be able to use are free flying ones.

So, it seems like it isn't the best idea to go with the iguanarium. Should I stick with the mesh chameleon tanks?

One thing you could do is cover it with a finer mesh that would contain the feeders. The iguanarium would basically provide the structure to support the mesh.

I stumbled across the Dragon Strand cages on this website and will probably go that route. I am just craving something better built that the standard mesh cages. I like the options on the Dragon cages. I'm going to do the hybrid with the clear front door. Also ordered a Mist King so I should be set up pretty well.
