Ok, so I got a teeny tiny panther baby from Ed, Liddy, & Briana about 1 1/2 months ago. Since then, I have not attempted handling, as I want him to be a pleasant adult. He eats his crickets from my hand every day, and has been for the better part of the time I've had him. Briana told me this in an email:
"As far as handling is concerned, I definitely feel that he has had a good amount of time to settle in to his home and can tolerate a small amount of handling. The fact that he trusts you enough already to take food from your hand is a promising sign! He may already be warming up to you! I would approach him slowly with a hand placed in front of him to see if he will crawl onto your hand when prompted from behind with your other hand. Don’t be alarmed if he isn’t into it at first. If he runs, just gently (but swiftly) pick him up off of his branch. When you actually have him out, let him crawl up and down your arm or on a couch while supervised. Let him walk on you…imagine that your arm and hands are like tree limbs. They don’t like to be held or clutched onto like other lizards may tolerate. He’ll probably try to crawl right onto your head…they feel comfortable when up high."
I was wondering if this was approved by everyone one here, because I don't want him to hate me for the rest of forever. And input is appreciated!
