After a year of reading through posts on this forum I finally decided I was ready to raise a chameleon of my own! Just picked him up today, and he seems pretty comfortable at his new home. :) He's a 4 month old veiled. Still have no idea what I'm gunna name him!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chameleons! Great choice in species, as well, my first cham was a veiled, and they are a bundle of attitude! Love them! We need to see some pictures of your new little one! :)

thanks! Yeah, he had a bit of an attitude with the pet store lady. but when I got him home, he didn't even hiss at me when picked him up to put him in his cage. I'm hoping he stays like that with me, but from what I've read, I probably shouldn't get to used to it!! :p

I concur.

Solid Snake applauds your use of a temp probe on the basking site, and your obvious prior researching to some extent.

Welcome to Chameleon Forums!

Best of luck to you and your cham.

Dont hesitate to ask any questions. ;)

Very good looking little guy, love the striping coming in! I am impressed with how he looks coming from the petstore :) Keep us all updated on him, especially with that name!

Congratulations on you new veiled! :)
It is so nice to read about people doing all their research and reading first! I know you must be thrilled.

I have a 5 month veiled and sometimes he gets a little upset when I get him out of his enclosure.... but he really loves it when I do so he can hang out in the FR area. It is my understanding they can can a little testy when someone gets in their cage... so if yours does just have patience or possibly get him out on a stick so he can play in a FR area. Mine loves that!!

Thanks everyone! It's awesome to be part of such a welcoming community. :)

The little guy is getting adjusted pretty nice, he's a lot more active today. He doesn't seem to like cup feeding very much, but if I drop some crickets on the leaves of his pothos, he goes right after them!! He's eating at least 15 half inch crickets a day so far, might let him have a few more tomorrow and see how he does.

Welcome and congrats! But be warned... Chameleonism is powerfully addictive! I am relatively new myself, and with only 2 young panthers (so far), it's already hard to remember life (or house!) from pre-chameleon days...

Be prepared to start finding more and more reasons to spend time lurking around places like Lowes or Home Depot and obsessively surfing the net for more and more seemingly obscure knowledge and supplies.. And don't be surprised to wake up one day and realize that you're surrounded by feeder colonies and enclosure expansion projects that rival the administration of a third world nation or mid-size corporate start-up...

And when your new little buddy starts appearing in your dreams asking for the car keys, you'll know that there is no turning back!

No really, all kidding aside you're gonna love it! And keep the pictures coming!

Yeah, I was surprised at how bright his colors were when I saw him, and how much energy he had. I give credit to the pet shop for how well they cared for him.

He will be a very happy chameleon, considering your already in the forums and have done research:) might I suggest he looks like a Waldo:D good luck to you and your cham!!

I couldn't agree enough and I don't regret a single bit of it:))

Beautiful chameleon! He looks older than 4 months. My veiled is almost 4.5 months old is approximately 3-3.5 inches from snout to vent. Unless chameleons grow at different rates.
