Just got her.

Yea the only problem i have with the dripping this is wherw ill the excess water go shoud i always have the dripper with water dont let it go out ( i will be using plastic bottles) should i use those pot pans that when the pot the plant is in is overwaterd it goes to the pan?

honestly dripping is the least of your worries right now..
get a screen cage and then the water issue will be much easier to solve as well as some live plants , just search that as well.

OK! io found these i have huge glass tanks for fish and all but maybe they can work for a cham? if not dont fret i have another solution! first the pictures
this is 1 tank thats big and has closet underneath made for it
tank1.jpg

this tank is yet anothe rlike the first but i could maybe instead turn it vertical
tank2.jpg

this is a piece of furnishign that i have wire mesh to staple gun to it remove the mirrors and etc make it my own but i ws wonderign what yall thought
tank3.jpg

this is the cage i found to temporarily place it that from yalls description would be better

the big furniture peice that you could staple gun some mesh to would work great, but you will have to cut some squares out of the top and put mesh up there too so you can mount the lights on the top outside of it..but with a lil work that would be nice..

The cage is by far the best for a Cham, but is too big to keep your little one in. The glass fish tank would do for now, but it would be much better to have no glass. That is why the mirrored one would be very difficult to convert. Forget that one, keep the birdcage.
Maybe you could use it now, but restrict the space she can get to. Make sure she can't get near enough to the basking bulb and you can hang them inside the cage? I'm not sure of the scale so make sure she has no chance of sneaking through the bars........

i would steer away from glass..and as for size..i free range my chams from 1-2 months..i have never seen a cage too big..lol

I agree, I would totally pimp out that big cage, that could be really sweet when your done! And you can cup feed so he doesn't have a problem finding food in a larger cage. But like David said a bigger tank is a fine temporary solution until you get another one set up as long as you take all the wonderful suggestions given to you. What a fun project

:p

Well as i am settign and cleaning it up she is in her cage i moved the heating light kinda away farther she has turned a greyish browning and its scaring me she is looking at herself in the glass and like pawing it touching the glass shes no longer her light green hue any help on that?

alright thank you i am starting my cage! im excited definitely i am starting to clean it it is polished wood with finish on it but it is quite old how should i go about cleanign it has alot of cob webs and all after that i need to glue a couple pieces back on and staple wire mesh on it and im all set any suggestions

I'd clean it with soap and water, make sure there's nothing sharp like rusty nails or splinters, and spray it with a hose. Then, I'd sell it to a bird owner and pick up an aluminum Reptibreeze. I don't think polished wood is safe for your chameleon bc of the chemicals.

well the polish has gone long ago and whats left is just smooth wood i will take a better picture

how wide is it from the back to the front? It looks too shallow. You'd be better off using that wire to form two circles and place them on top of one another. Then, secure them with zip ties or something like this.

I'd save that piece of furniture for a future project after you build something like I just mentioned bc that's a lot of work and your chameleon needs a new home asap. Use those vines and branches you've got, too. Pick up an "umbrella tree" from Lowes and clean it well. There are threads on how to do that already just use the "Search" tool.

You will be fine with the polished wood, just give it a good clean and cover it with screen making sure there r is nothing sharp poking out. Your cham would have to be eating the wood for chemical to be a prob

i think its good..keep goin with it..as for the lighting set up..if you put aluminum mesh up in that top space you can creat a no-go spot to make a cavity for the lighting..i like it..i think once its all cleaned up and set up it will work great..

thanks so much for your words sdheli420! i stripped everything from it all thats left is the frame trying to figure out what to put as a backboard because the front will be metal mesh and the back will be i guess something good with humidity? from the picture up top there is already a placce to put a lighting fixture i was thinking of puting my heat lamp there and 2 uvs on the side parts? or vice versa? what do yall think?

I agree.. The furniture piece will be nice.. but in the meantime I would build a small temp cage... Either the one in the link or google how to build a cage... It'd make a buig difference for you to get your cham in some good temp housing in the meantime..

Hey shrilly, just a thought here. I am not sure if this will be an indoor or outdoor cage, but I am about to start an outdoor sunning enclosure and have the same wire mesh and someone pointed out that firefly's are highly toxic to chameleons. I am thinking about switching to aluminum screen instead. If you get firefly's where you live you might want to take that into consideration. Although it looks like you are planning to use it for indoors. Just wanted to throw that out there. I think your cage is going to be awesome when it's done. Keep posting pics:)
