Just found baby chameleon-need help!

Hi,

I live in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and I have just found a baby chameleon, not sure how old he is but seems really young...he is around 3cm long. I have made him a temporary shelter and would appreciate some helpful hints!

Also, and most importantly what do I feed a chameleon this small? I know they eat insects but most of them are bigger than him!

I have attached a picture...does anyone know what type of Chameleon he is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

hey there...
that seems to be a baby flap necked chameleon....
i used to research them on the net as i almost got one as a pet but now care for a diff species.make sure he has enough twigs and hiding places in the enclosure and dnt let the temp go higher than 85F(28C) in the enclosure while maintaining 50-70%humidity by misting. You should feed him/her pinhead crickets or fruit flies or any non poisonous insects that fit between the gap of their eyes.Another important thing is lighting...You neeeed a uvb linear tube for the cham to grow properly.I strongly suggest that, if you just found it, you should release it back where you got it from and do some research before taking on any chameleon as a pet as his/her well being will be your responsibility.

:)

I think you should let it go. Its super cool you found it but if you live a place with wild chams and are unsure of speices and how to care for it your better off enjoying them in there native habitat. I cant imagine how you would obtain tiny insects on a constant basis to feed it. Hope you do the right thing and goodluck!

I'd let this one go, do some research and build a cage and gather materials you need to keep a chameleon healthy, then go find another one. It's best to have everything right before you take one on, especially that young as it can be killed very easily.
